Strange additions, strange omissions

  • I thought that at the moment, the main criterion to let a player belong to the database was that he finished his carrer in the 90's, not earlier.
So I was thunderstruck when I saw the German National Team section, which even includes players fom 1910 !!!!!
And I'm afraid it's becoming the same problem for Italy and Fance...

I admit I don't like this imbalance at all.
If these additions only concerned legends like Beckenbauer, Müller or Rummenigge, I would agree and even think it's an excellent idea. But when anonymous players who retired before World Wars are included in the database, I'm in the mood to throw them out !

Let's be logical and add in priority IMPORTANT and recent players, whatetver their country is.
When I say "important", I mean players who earned many many caps, who attended several World Cups, who won many individual and collective awards...
It's normal that a player who won 60 cups in the 80's is to be included before a player who won 15 caps in the 50's. When I see the France section, I have some doubts (Alcazar is in the database but not Giresse or Battiston... Shocking !)...

Strong countries like Brazil and Argentina are unfairly neglected in this site. When you have a look at the database, you wonder if Malta, Iceland or Luxemburg are more important than them ! They diserve to have all of their players of the 90's included, as well as many past players who won a World Cup. Nevermind if their club career (especially their number of games and goals) is not as well informed as for european players.

Anyway, I think it's not a scandal to omit every player who retired before the end of the 50's. The oldest german player who deserve to be in the database is Fritz Walter, for example.
During the 50's, many countries did not exist yet, many countries had different borders and flags, many countries merged and splitted... It was not the same World...
There are players from more recent former countries (Basically USSR and Yugoslavia) who deserve by far to be in the database than many players from the 50's and before...

Sorry that I cannot help much to feed the site as I'm not a PlayerHistory member, but please consider this message !

  • Hi archivist - don't worry, there is no imbalancing in NFT. The reason is that the site is progressing to cover all national team players of all time, as Benjamin told me; Germany, Italy and France will be the first countries to be completed, just because those infos are quite easy to find out. Other countries will follow soon, look at Peru or Mexico, for example.
Anyway, if this site relays on national football teams, any anonimous player that has only 1 cap for his national team should be added, sooner or later. De Avila and Giresse have just been added, just have patience.

So let's help Benjamin on it!!

  • Hi archivist - we just decided to add every single national player that ever was, just as Alessandro said. It just takes time, probably some years. For me, no player is more important than another player. So I am happy about information on any player. All the guys you listed should be online sooner or later.
