If you find mistakes (of which there must be a lot)

  • The 19/20 season in Lebanon was completely cancelled. All players should have - - that season (not 3 1, or 1 0, for example).

See this article, which states that the league was cancelled "with all its effects".

Also LebanonFG, a Lebanese news + statistics website, doesn't display stats for the 2019/20 season as it was cancelled.

Regarding the article you linked, I understand by "all its effects" (="بكافة مفاعيله") that there will be no championship awarded, no relegation at all levels from 1st down to 5th, no continuation of league or cups, and that the played games won't count for nothing regarding the points obtained by the clubs. For me that doesn't affect the players statistic, as in fact the players played these 1st league games, and by that moment they were thought to be counted as such.

My understanding of the article is also confirmed by the website you linked. The stats for teams are cancelled (btw that is also why we don't have a league table for Lebanon in 19/20), but individual players stats are counted, for example Mehdi Khalil

In general, league stats are a great help to verify a player's club affiliation. Not only to show how many games a player played (indicating what his role at the club team was), but also to verify that a player indeed was at the club. In many countries without league stats, we never can be sure if a player was really at the club or just at trial. Was he injured or maybe just in the second team, or still in the youth team? So league stats are a good proof that a player really was part of the first team. Also zero stats 0/0 (0 games 0 goals) is an information to us, as it shows that we have all match reports, and that we know that the player didn't appear in any game. When we see ( - / - ) at national-football-teams it only tells that there is no data and that we don't have any idea about how many games a player played. As we know if and how many games the players played in Lebanese League, we should use this data, too. Just like we do it in all the other leagues worldwide which were equally annulled in 19/20. Some of them also without declaring a champion and some, like in Lebanon, even without relegation and/or promotion.

Thanks for the in-depth response. While I do understand your points, what I am claiming is that one cannot say that Hassan Maatouk has scored 69 goals, and is 49 goals away from the all-time league goalscorer tally of 118. He has scored 68 goals, as those were goals scored in effective league games.

I had actually raised this issue at Wikipedia, and there was consensus not to include statistics of cancelled seasons (be it for WW2, political reasons, or COVID-19). This is why I am discussing this here (and with other websites such as Soccerway).

A compromise could be to add a note in some form, highlighting that the 19/20 season was cancelled altogether. I personally view these 3 matchdays the same way I view, say, non-FIFA international games. If someone has 10 official goals for Lebanon, and 20 non-FIFA, one can't say that he is the all-time international goalscorer for Lebanon with 30 goals.

Also, Vartan Ghazarian scored 12 goals in the cancelled 00/01 season, which are not officially counted by the Federation. This has serious implications, mainly being that without those 12 goals he is the joint all-time league goalscorer (with Fadi Alloush) with 118 goals. Had they been counted, he would by far be the all time scorer, with 130 goals. I see the same situation in 19/20.

  • Soccerway has made quite a mess regarding Mohamed Hammoud; I'll try to clear it up:

Mohamed Hammoud (goalkeeper) -> Mohamad I Hammoud

    Full name: Mohamad Hassan Hammoud

    12/13: Ahed 0 apps 0 goals

    13/14: Ahed 0 apps 0 goals

    13/14: NOT at Nejmeh

    rest is correct

Mohamed Hammoud (right-back) -> Mohamad II Hammoud

    Born: 1 May 1984 (not in 1988)

    Full name: Mohamad Mostafa Hammoud

01/02 to 08/09: Hikmeh La Sagesse Beirut

    14/15: Nejmeh (16 apps 2 goals)

    15/16: Nejmeh (16 apps 0 goals)

    16/17: Nejmeh (15 apps 0 goals)

17/18: Al Shabab Al Arabi (15 apps 0 goals)

end of career, not at Shabab Al-Sahel

Mohamed Hassan Hammoud -> Mohamad III Hammoud

    Full name: Mohamad Hassan Hammoud

    06/07 to 13/14: Ansar

    14/15: Safa (21 apps 0 goals)

    15/16: Safa (11 apps 0 goals)

16/17: Akhaa Ahli Aley (17 apps 0 goals)

17/18: Akhaa Ahli Aley (16 apps 0 goals)

    18/19: Shabab Sahel (20 apps 0 goals)

19/20: Shabab Sahel (3 app 0 goals; cancelled season)

    20/21: Shabab Sahel (ongoing)

Hopefully this is clear enough. I've also explained this to Soccerway who should fix all the profiles.
